A collection of things around me in my studio and house, chosen instinctively without too much deliberation. These things, some man-made and some natural, many of which are picked up from travels over many years, for the purposes of this painting, represent me. This composite still life is one of many I have painted in this way… objects isolated in space, but connected (and touching) one to another. That’s also how I feel as an artist and an individual, isolated but connected, seemingly contradictory states. Achieving balance (and thereby happiness) within a contradictory and ever changing state is the ultimate challenge of life. Framed in 4 cm wide, stained and waxed oak frame.
